GSO signs a contract to operate the Standards Store with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Sultanate of Oman
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) signed with the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the Sultanate of Oman a contract to operate the Omani Standards Store, on the sidelines of the visit of His Excellency Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al-Theeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and his accompanying delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last week.
The contract was signed by His Excellency Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al-Theeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and HE Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi, GSO President in the presence of the Ministry accompanying delegation of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in the Sultanate of Oman included His Excellency Qais bin Muhammad Al-Youssef, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, His Excellency Khamis bin Abdullah Al-Farsi, Director General of the General Directorate of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and a number of officials at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
The signing of the contract for operating the Omani Standards Store is a part of GSO project to convert to XML technologies in publishing standards, which GSO launched in September 2018 by signing a contract with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism in the Kingdom of Bahrain to develop and operate the National Standards Store at the Standards and Metrology Department in the Ministry.
It also comes from the principle of sustainable partnership adopted by GSO with its Member States in an effort to develop and modernize its technical services and provide national, Gulf, regional and international standards electronically.
This project aims to achieve the vision of GSO to lead the standardization activities within the framework of coordination and integration between GSO and the National Standardization Bodies (NSBs) in the Member States. This will enhance the Gulf joint work process and improve the quality of Gulf and national standards by eliminating human errors resulting from manual entry. The cost of ownership for international organizations, as well as the cost of human resources required for manual labor will lead to the rapid provision of standards for beneficiaries and interested immediately after adoption, in addition to increase the number of standards available for purchase, improve the user experience by enabling a preview profile the contents of the standard before buying, in line with international practices in this regard.
The project includes the electronic connectivity of the Gulf standard with international and national standards, the automation of the publishing and output of Gulf and national standards and regulations, the simplification and standardization of standard procedures, the provision of a unified platform for the sale of national, Gulf and international standards, Gulf and national adoption in its language and without modification, available in XML format from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in electronic format, and contributes to the modernization of all relevant standards system Descriptors, project standards system, and standard store.
