The Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization holds its 59th meeting and adopts (1130) Gulf standards
The Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) held its fifty-ninth meeting on Monday and Tuesday, 14-15 October 2024.
The meeting was hosted by the State of Qatar, represented by Qatar General Organization for Standardization (QS).
The opening speech was delivered by His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Musallam, President of QS, and Chairman of the current session of the Council, in which he welcomed the members of the Council and the delegates. He wished them a pleasant stay in the State of Qatar, and also wished the deliberations of the meeting every success.
Mr. Al-Musallam congratulated His Excellency Eng. Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al-Mana on assuming his duties as President of GSO, wishing him every success.
He also congratulated the United Arab Emirates, represented by Her Excellency Dr. Farah bint Ali Al Zarouni, Assistant Undersecretary for the Standards and Regulation Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, for being elected as member in the Council of the International Organization for Standardization ISO (ISO Council), wishing her every success.
In a statement, His Excellency Eng. Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Mana, President of GSO, explained that GSO Technical Council approved at its meeting a new set of Gulf standards for a number of goods and products, the number of which stands at (1130) Gulf standards, covering various sectors. The Guide on the Role of the Notified Laboratories Dis, was also adopted.
He pointed out that the Council also approved (26) translation projects for Gulf standards / technical regulations, and also approved (6) technical amendments / corrigenda for Gulf standards and technical regulations, and also approved (50) technical amendments / corrigenda to international standards adopted on the Gulf level, in addition to approving GSO budget for the fiscal year 2025.
His Excellency pointed out that the Technical Council of GSO, which is comprised of the Heads of National Standardization Bodies in the member states, reviewed at its meeting a number of projects and discussed a number of important topics related to standardization activity. The Council also praised the efforts that GSO exerts in implementing the decisions taken by the Council to serve standardization activities in the member states.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Technical Council appreciated the great efforts made by His Excellency the President of QS for his distinguished administration of the works of the meeting, and extended thanks and gratitude to the State of Qatar for generously hosting the meeting, and to GSO on the good preparation for the meeting.
It is worthwhile mentioning that the meeting was also attended by all representatives of the member states, His Excellency the President of GSO and a representative of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
