GSO discusses strengthening cooperation with the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center
His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khasibi, President of the Standardization Organization for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GSO), paid a visit to the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center in the Kingdom of Bahrain, during which he met with His Excellency Mr. Nasser Abdulnabi Khalil, the Acting Secretary-General of the Center.
During the meeting, areas of mutual cooperation between the two sides in the framework of the signed bilateral memorandum of cooperation, were discussed. Discussions also tackled the general framework for cooperation, and the services provided by the Center and GSO to enhance joint Gulf action in the trade and investment fields, in addition to discussing cooperation in the training field.
During the meeting, President of GSO hailed the role of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center for the services it provides in the field of arbitration that contribute to resolving disputes and reaching a settlement without resorting to courts, in a way that supports the economic and investment environment in the GCC countries.
GSO President emphasized GSO’s readiness to promote joint cooperation with the Center by developing a sustainable work methodology that realizes the interests of both sides. He underlined the role of the Acting Secretary-General of the Center in leading the work in the Center, capitalizing on his experience that extends for more than 25 years in the field of arbitration that will result in implementing the best modern and up to date practices in the field of arbitration.
On his part, the Acting Secretary General of the Center indicated that the mere cooperation with GSO would open wider horizons for the Center in its field of work to develop the legal and arbitration environment in the Arabian Gulf states as a whole, and to provide an advanced international arbitration experience that helps in resolving disputes in the best way, which in turn would contribute to supporting the commercial sector and attracting foreign investments by providing a successful and easy way to settle potential commercial disputes according to well established international frameworks.
His Excellency stated that the training philosophy at the Center emanate from a systematic vision that visualizes on investing in the energies of a generation of qualified university youth by giving them an opportunity to complete their legal and arbitration qualifications and enhance their knowledge to assume the responsibility of resolving commercial, financial and investment disputes through arbitration.
He added that this can be accomplished by providing trainees with the latest methods and mechanisms of the concept, essence and nature of arbitration; as well as its types, stages and development in arbitration legal thought.
He explained that the Center was characterized, since its inception in Bahrain in March 1995, with its keenness in developing a program for qualifying and preparing arbitrators, which has become an annual landmark on the agenda of the Center’s training programs, and it is always receiving an increasing demand from chambers of commerce and industry, universities, justice and judicial institutions, and universities in the GCC States.
During the visit, the Secretary-General in charge of the Center briefed the President of GSO about the Center through an introductory tour of its facilities in the arbitration and training halls, as well as the Center’s library, and introduced him to the Center’s mechanism and philosophy used in maintaining the highest standards of training quality, as well as the compatibility of the arbitration halls with the privacy and confidentiality of the arbitration cases being considered under the umbrella of the Center.
During the meeting, a memorial shield was presented to the Director General of the Center by the President of GSO. Likewise, a number of the Center’s publications were also presented to the GSO President.
