GSO Technical Council Approves (365) Gulf Standards and Technical Regulations
The Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) approved, at its recently held fifty-seventh meeting, (349) new Gulf standards for a number of goods and products.
In a statement, His Excellency Mr. Saud bin Nasser Al-Khusaibi, President of GSO explained that GSO Technical Council adopted at its fifty-seventh meeting a new set of Gulf standards for a number of goods and products, the number of which reached (349) Gulf standards covering various sectors. The Council also agreed to raise (16) draft Gulf technical regulations, to the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs for approval as mandatory Gulf technical regulations.
He pointed out that the Council also agreed to approve draft translation of (40) Gulf standards / technical regulation and approved the plans of the Gulf Standards Technical Committees for the year 2024.
His Excellency added that the Technical Council meeting reviewed a number of important projects, discussed a number of topics related to standardization activity, approved a number of decisions supporting the process of cooperation between member states in the field of standardization, and took note of developments in the implementation of the strategic plan 2021-2025. He also praised the efforts exerted by GSO in implementing the decisions of the Council and in putting them into practice to serve standardization activities in the member states.
His Excellency the President of GSO stated that the GSO Technical Council, which comprises the heads of the national standardization bodies in the member states, reviewed the memorandum of the Presidency of GSO regarding the outcomes of the third meeting of the Gulf Committee for Laboratories, and approved the document of the Gulf Committee for Laboratories regarding the aspirations of the establishment and future directions, because of the vision it contains for paths and directions to activate laboratory services as one of the standardization activities during the coming period, to keep pace with the aspirations of the member states and enhancing their standardization infrastructure.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Technical Council praised the great effort made by His Excellency the President of the Qatar General Organization for Standardization and metrology (QS) for his distinguished management of the meeting. The Technical Council also extended its thanks and appreciation to the State of Qatar, represented by (QS), for hosting the meeting, and to GSO for its good preparation for the meeting.
The meeting was held on 30-31 January, 2024 under the chairmanship of His Excellency Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Mussalam the President of (QS), with the participation of all representatives of member states and in the presence of His Excellency the President of GSO, and a representative of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
