Signing two agreements between GSO and YSMO
The GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) and the Yemen Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control Organization (YSMO) signed an agreement to “provide development and operation services for issuing energy efficiency labels,” and an agreement to “develop and operate the standards store for publishing and selling standards.”
The signing ceremony took place in the city of Aden, the provisional capital of the Republic of Yemen, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Al-Ashwal, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Yemen.
The two agreements were signed by the President of GSO, His Excellency Mr. Saud Al-Khusaibi, and the Director General of YSMO, Engineer Hadid Al-Mas.
The two agreements are aiming at enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two sides, in a way that supports regional standardization and contributes to achieving the goals of sustainable development.
The first agreement aims at developing and operating an electronic store to publish and sell standards, which contributes to facilitating access to Yemeni and Gulf standards as well as the standards issued by the International Organization for Standardization ISO, in a way that guarantees users easy and speedy access to the required standards. The second agreement also aims at providing services for developing and operating the issuance of energy efficiency labels, thus contributing to economic, environmental, and societal sustainability by way of rationalizing energy consumption, reducing its costs, and protecting the environment.
In a statement to the Yemeni News Agency “Saba”, His Excellency the Minister of Industry and Trade stressed the importance of regional cooperation in the field of standardization, hailing the role of GSO in supporting member states, noting that Yemen has been a member of GSO since 2010, which reflects Yemen’s keenness to strengthening cooperation with the GCC States in various fields. He pointed out that the absolute support for standardization services and the conclusion of these agreements reflect the government’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and promoting innovation and excellence and represents a major step towards achieving integration and harmony with Gulf and international standardization activities.
The President of GSO also stressed the commitment of GSO to strengthening cooperation with member states, expressing his happiness for signing the two agreements with YSMO, and reiterating that the signing of the two agreements comes within the framework of GSO keenness to support member states to achieve their development goals.
In turn, the Director General of YSMO praised the government and Gulf support for standardization and quality initiatives in Yemen. He affirmed the commitment of YSMO to implement the two agreements in a way that serves the interests of Yemen and the member states, indicating that the two agreements would contribute to enhancing the technical and knowledge capabilities of YSMO and supporting the local industry and national economy.
