Launching of the Gulf Cooperation Groups for the Notified Bodies’ Meetings in Dubai
The activities of the meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Groups of the notified bodies and the working groups emanating from them began on Monday, 13 May,2024.
The event is organized by the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology in the United Arab Emirates during the period 13-17 May 2024, in the city of Dubai.
The activities started with the seventh meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Group of the notified bodies for the Gulf technical regulation for low-voltage electrical appliances and equipment, in the presence of more than 80 participants from representatives of the Gulf notified bodies.
Engineer Ibrahim Al-Hashaf, Head of the Notification Department at GSO, reviewed the report of GSO on updating the Gulf conformity services for the period from May 2023 to May 2024.
A working paper was also presented by Engineer Ali Al-Hayki, Head of the Technical Regulations Department at GSO. The paper focused on the practices in implementing the Gulf technical regulations for low-voltage electrical appliances and equipment.
Engineer Yusuf Aaji, Head of the IT Solutions Department at GSO, also reviewed the new technical services that were updated for the Gulf conformity mark and Gulf notification services.
Mr. Bruce McGill, Head of the Policy Working Team of the Gulf Cooperation Groups of Notified Bodies presented a report on the progress in policies and procedures for framing and governance of conformity assessment services in the framework of the Gulf technical regulation.
Mr. Martin Wertham, Head of the Harmonization and Integration Working Team of the Gulf Cooperation Groups of Notified Bodies also reviewed the results of the harmonization that were realized during last year between the conformity assessment bodies and the relevant authorities.
Mrs. Mazzola, Gabriella, Head of the Smart Platforms and Services Working Team of the Gulf Cooperation Groups of notified bodies, delivered a lecture in which she explained the technical services and updates in the Gulf Conformity mark platforms and their interconnection with the relevant parties.
Following the presentation of the working papers, the meetings of the working teams of the Gulf Technical Regulations for Low-Voltage Electrical appliances and equipment started. It consists of the policy and interpretation work team, the harmonization and implementation work team, and the technology and cooperation work team.
On the other hand, the first meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Group of notified bodies for the GSO Technical Regulation for Water Consumption Conservation Products, which is due to continue through 13-15 May 2024. Mrs. Paola Pisconi, head of the working team of the conformity assessment bodies for implementing the Gulf technical regulation for GSO Technical Regulation for Water Consumption Conservation Products, presented a working paper on the progress in the implementation process for conformity assessment procedures for this Regulation.
Continuation to the meetings of the Gulf groups, the meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Group of the notified bodies in the field of energy efficiency regulations is due to start on Tuesday and will go on until 15-17 May 2024. Meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Group of the notified bodies in the field of Gulf technical regulations for children’s toys is also due to meet on 16-17 May 2024.
These meetings aim at enhancing GSO’s commitments and its efforts in fostering the capabilities of the notified bodies to contribute to the development of Gulf procedures for issuing the Gulf conformity mark, and the optimal implementation of the Gulf Conformity Tracking System, as well as discussing the progress of the work of the teams work and identifying the challenges and problems facing economic operators in implementing the regulations. In addition to opening new horizons for cooperation and development.
