The Week of Activities of Gulf Technical Committees
The week of activities of the Gulf Technical Committees and Working Groups began on Sunday, 1st September 2024. The objective is to review and discuss a number of topics related to Gulf standards and technical regulations for a number of different sectors. The event, which is due to continue for five days, is being held at the headquarters of the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) in Riyadh.
This event includes holding 25 meetings in which more than 320 experts from the national standardization bodies of GSO member states take part, either physically or virtually through visual communication technology, for a number of Gulf standards technical committees that cover various sectors such as chemistry and textiles, mechanics, electricity, metrology, food and agriculture, building and construction, oil and gas, information, health, and management systems.
This week’s activities also include meetings of the Gulf conformity teams, such as the Work Team for the Gulf Technical Regulation for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment and appliances, the Work Team for the Gulf Technical Regulation for Machinery, the Work Team for the Gulf Technical Regulation for Electromagnetic Compatibility, and also the Work Team for the Gulf Technical Regulation for Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical Equipment and Appliances.
It is worthwhile mentioning that the Gulf technical committees and work teams comprise representatives from all national standardization bodies in member states and GSO. They are entrusted with preparing Gulf standards and technical regulations that cover vital industrial and economic sectors, and fulfil the requirements of the Gulf common market, and aim to protect the consumer, the environment, and the public health.
GSO is quite convinced to involve the public and private sectors in the member states in the work of the Gulf standards technical committees and their contribution in preparing and commenting on Gulf standards and technical regulations, which is indispensable in ensuring the participation of the relevant stakeholders in developing the Gulf standards and technical regulations through participation in the work of the Gulf technical committees, sub-committees and working groups, proposing draft Gulf standards and technical regulations that constitute urgent need and high priority, in addition to contributing to studying Draft Gulf standards and technical regulations and submitting their technical comments on them, which in turn will contribute to strengthening the partnership with these sectors, raising the quality of outputs and optimal implementation of those Gulf standards and technical regulations by the participating parties.
