The Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs holds its eighth meeting in Doha
 

The Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) held its eighth meeting under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Trade and Industry of the State of Qatar, Chairman of the current session, and in the presence of Their Excellencies members of the committee Ministers of Trade and Industry concerned with standardization affairs, and His Excellency the Secretary General of the GCC, and His Excellency the President of the GCC Standardization (GSO).

The meeting was held in the city of Doha, on 31 October 2024, and was hosted by the State of Qatar.

Following the meeting, His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC stated that the committee discussed a number of topics on its agenda, most notably the adoption of new Gulf technical regulations for a number of goods and products, and the approval of the budget of GSO for the fiscal year 2025, in addition to reviewing a number of topics related to standardization activities, besides reviewing the report of the President of GSO on its work progress, activities and achievements, and the outcomes of the Gulf technical committees during the period from April to September 2024.

It is worthwhile mentioning that GSO assumed its work in 2004, and aims to unify the various standardization activities and follow up on their application and commitment in cooperation and coordination with the national standardization bodies in the member states, in a way that contributes to the development of its production and service sectors, the development of intra-trade, the protection of consumers, the environment and public health, and promoting Gulf industries, products and services, in a way that boost Gulf economy, preserves the accomplishments of member states, and contributes to reducing technical barriers to trade, in compliance with the objectives of the Gulf customs union and the Gulf common market
