The General Committee for STANDARDS holds its 43rd meeting in Riyadh, approves 1,140 Draft Gulf Standards
The General Committee for Standards held its forty-third meeting at the headquarters of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) in Riyadh during 24-25 December 2024.
The members of the Committee reviewed a Number of important topics related to standards activity and approved 1,140 draft Gulf standards within the technical work programs of the Gulf standards technical committees for the year 2025. The Committee recommended that these approved draft standards are raised to GSO Technical Council for endorsement at its next meeting.
The Committee has also approved a Number of other decisions, including evaluation of the performance of Gulf standards technical committees for the year 2023.
It is worthwhile mentioning that membership of the General Committee for Standards comprises the Directors of Standards of the national standardization bodies in the member states. The committee is chaired by the Director of Standards in the country holding the rotational presidency, and GSO is responsible for the secretariat of the committee. The committee is entrusted with several responsibilities, amongst which are overseeing the activities of GSO Standards Technical Committees; approving draft Gulf standards and raising them for endorsement by GSO Technical Council; recommending approval of draft Gulf technical regulations to GSO Technical Council which in turn raise them for endorsement by the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs; in addition to approving the annual plans of GSO standards technical committees, subcommittees, and the work teams emanating from them and submitting them to the Technical Council for approval, and following up on their implementation.
